Residents of Camden and Gloucester Cities looking for a career in the building trades under-go screening. To uphold the high standard of skill needed to compete in the unions of the building trades candidates are interviewed. Following a review of their academic and work requirements candidates may be referred for pre-apprentice training. The training component consists of introductions to the career opportunities in the unions of the construction trades, construction math, OSHA basic safety training, tool handling, hands on construction skill development, life skills training, computer and financial literacy, and interview skills. Successful candidates for the program need be to residents of Camden and Gloucester Cities, 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license, and have working transportation. Successful candidates must score a 10 or higher on the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) test offered at the Camden County One-Stop. If a candidate has a legal stipulation they must be able to leave the jurisdiction to complete their apprenticeship work and training requirements.
